Dietary supplements in nutrition of toddlers with delayed psychomotor development undergoing spa treatment
Šírová, Lucie ; Bartošová, Olga (advisor) ; El-Lababidi, Nabil (referee)
The thesis aimed at finding out whether parents of toddlers with delayed psychomotor development undergoing curative spa stays administer food supplements, their reasons for administering them and what kinds and how often food supplements are administered. Eating habits of these children were looked into as well. Children with polio and central infantile hypotonic syndrome took part in the research. Quantitative research method using an anonymous questionnaire was employed for data collection. Altogether, there were 50 respondents. The results showed that 72 % (n=36) of parents already administered their children food supplements at such an early age. The most frequent motive for this was to strengthen the immune system. Vitamin supplements counted among the most frequently administered supplements in the sample. Furthermore, the research showed that not even the food composition of children in the sample was ideal. The results proved that it is highly desirable to pursue nutrition education of parents of children with neurological handicaps and chiefly also assure higher awareness of food supplements. Key words: dietary supplements, nutrition, toddler period, delayed psychomotor development, vitamins, cerebral palsy
Characterisation of rare genetic diseases using genomic techniques.
Kmochová, Tereza ; Hodaňová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Schierová, Michaela (referee)
In this thesis the importance of studying genetically determined rare diseases is described and current methods and options to determine their genetic causes are evaluated. The introduction describes the definition of rare diseases and the reasons why we study them. Currently it is known about 8,000 diseases which are caused by functionally serious mutations in one or more genes. The clinical symptoms of genetically caused rare diseases and the results of common functional and biochemical tests do not allow the exact diagnosis in most cases. The absence of the diagnosis and the causes of diseases reduces the quality of life of patients and their families. The determination of genetic causes allows accurate classification of studied cases and it is a base for qualified genetic counseling and prevention of rare diseases in the families. The next chapters describe the methods of DNA analysis (DNA sequencing using different methods), the possibilities of finding the genetic cause of a disease and show the basic approaches to the study of functional impact of the mutations. The practical use of these methods is shown in the case of two siblings with delayed psychomotoric development, special hair quality (pili torti), hearing impairment and hyperuricemic nephropathy in which the genetic analysis...
Influence of rehabilitive hippotherapy on children with psychomotor retardation (till the age of five years)
BROMOVÁ, Martina
This bachelor thesis applies hippotherapy as therapeutic method in adjustment of delayed psychomotor (PM) development of children till the age of 5 years. A child should manage given level of motor mental and social skills corresponding to time period of its development. If the development of the child does not correspond to ideal PM development in quantity and quality we speak about central coordination disorder. This disorder manifests itself at new born baby in various grades depending on level of disability. Easier untreated forms of central coordination disorder manifests itself by postural fault, scoliosis posture and scoliosis. The most serious forms of central coordination disorder are developed into child cerebral palsy that manifest itself by various disability of physical and mental functions. Retardation of psychomotor development happens mostly to premature children, numerous pregnancy children and artificial insemination children. Hippotherapy is one of physiotherapeutic methods that are used in framework of complex rehabilitation to optimalise psychomotor development. It is proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation that is based on complex horse natural characteristic impact on human. Theoretical part consists of two units. In the first part the terms hipporehabilitation and hippotherapy are explained. Then there is a description of hippotherapy influence principle. This chapter includes specific and non-specific effects of hippotherapy, influence of hippotherapy on deep stabilization system and on human psyche. Next chapter is dedicated to hippotherapy practice. There is a mention of hippotherapeutic team, lenght of therapeutic unit, factors influencing effect of therapy and positions of the patients on the horse. The last chapter is about biomechanism of the horse motion. In the second part of the theoretical part there is lokomotion development of the child till one year and psychomotor development disorders. Practical part consists of qualitative research, which was performed by processing three complex case report by using observation method (kinesiology analysis of motorical skills), secundary data analysis and interview with parents. Research sample consisted of three children with delayed PM development till the age of five years who took part in at least ten therapeutic units in Citizens assotiation for hipporehabilitation KRAPET in Dynín. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to sum up the newest knowledge about hippotherapy and to realise the effects of hippotherapy rehabilitation on children with delayed PM development till the age of five years. The mission of this work is to improve knowledge about given problems among amateur and professional public. The output of this bachelor thesis can be used as an educational material for physiotherapy students and for next research.
